Space Technology was at the center of our lunch event on 28 May 2026 at Haus zum Rüden in Zurich. Together with our guests, we explored a rapidly evolving technology field: one that is moving beyond access to space and increasingly toward data, infrastructure and concrete operational applications.
Ahead of the event, we had invited selected guests to an exclusive lunch focused on the investment relevance of Space Technology. Now, we look back on a successful event that combined technological insights, strategic perspectives and personal exchange.
Space Technology: Where Is Scalable Value Created?
A particular highlight of the lunch event was the presentation by Dr. Felix Seidel. Under the title “Space Tech – Where Is Scalable Value Created?”, he showed that Space Technology is far more than rockets, satellites and spectacular missions.
Rockets capture attention — but the real value is increasingly created behind the rocket: where data becomes visible, understandable and actionable.
The central message of the presentation was clear:
The focus is shifting from orbit to decision-making.
From Specialized Technology to Everyday Infrastructure
Space Technology is increasingly developing from a specialized aerospace field into an invisible but essential infrastructure. Satellite data, Earth observation, communication and early-warning systems are becoming relevant across a growing number of industries and applications.
Dr. Felix Seidel highlighted how Space Technology can create tangible impact in areas such as:
- water and resource planning
- agriculture
- defense and security
- communication
- early-warning systems
- insurability and tradability of risks
- data-driven decision-making processes
This makes one thing clear: Space Technology is no longer only a topic for aerospace companies. It is becoming a technological foundation for many economic and societal applications
When Minutes Cost Billions
One of the most memorable thoughts from the presentation was:
When minutes cost billions, early warning becomes a market.
In areas such as natural disasters, wildfires, geopolitical risks, critical infrastructure and supply chains, fast and precise information can create significant economic value. This is exactly where Space Technology becomes relevant: through better data, earlier signals and more informed decisions.
The key question is therefore not only who can provide access to space. The more important question is who can turn that access into relevant data, operational solutions and scalable business models.
Satellite Data as the Foundation for New Applications
A central topic of the presentation was the role of satellite data. It enables developments on Earth to be observed more precisely, changes to be identified earlier and decisions to be based on better information.
Agriculture is one area with significant potential. Satellite data can help manage land more efficiently, estimate yields more accurately and identify ecological developments at an early stage.
Water management is another important application. Resources become more measurable, more plannable and therefore easier to manage. Similar developments can be seen in the security and defense sector, where early detection, classification and interpretation of situations are becoming increasingly important.
Further information on satellite-based Earth observation data can be found at NASA Earthdata, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and EOS Data Analytics.
Communication and the Space Economy
Communication was also part of the discussion. The example of SpaceX shows that access to orbit is important — but the broader economic relevance often lies in downstream applications.
Satellite-based communication networks such as Starlink illustrate how Space Technology can become part of global infrastructure. Value creation is therefore not limited to launching rockets. It increasingly lies in using space-based infrastructure for concrete applications.
Looking at the broader Space Economy, it becomes clear that we are still at an early stage. The greatest value creation is likely to emerge where data access, customer problems, value chains and monetization come together.
Our Technology Portfolios at a Glance
Following the Space Technology presentation, we also connected the topic to our own technology investment themes. Global Strategic Capital AG follows several structural growth themes through specialized technology portfolios.
These include:
NextGenTec, Quantum Computing, A.I. Infrastructure, Innovation, Hydrogen and Green Tech.
These portfolios address key technological developments that are likely to shape economies, infrastructure and capital markets in the years ahead. They include artificial intelligence, data centers, semiconductors, quantum technology, energy infrastructure, hydrogen, Green Tech and other disruptive technologies.
Space Technology fits naturally into this picture: it connects infrastructure, data, communication, security and new business models.
Personal Exchange at Haus zum Rüden
In addition to the presentations, personal exchange was a central part of the event. The historic setting of Haus zum Rüden in Zurich provided the ideal atmosphere for this discussion.
During the standing lunch, questions were explored in more depth, perspectives were exchanged and new insights were gained. For us, this direct dialogue is an important part of such events: technology becomes more tangible when it is discussed, questioned and placed into context together.
We Look Forward to the Next Exchange
We would like to thank all guests for their participation, interest and valuable conversations. A special thank you goes to Dr. Felix Seidel for his insightful and inspiring perspectives on Space Technology.
