The objective is to produce liquid energy carriers that are chemically comparable to fossil fuels but can be manufactured in a <strong data-start=\"1234\" data-end=\"1257\">climate-neutral way<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1260\" data-end=\"1315\">The production process consists of three central steps:<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"1b574kj\" data-start=\"1317\" data-end=\"1336\">1. Electrolysis<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1338\" data-end=\"1493\">Using renewable electricity, water is split into its components. This process produces <strong data-start=\"1425\" data-end=\"1437\">hydrogen<\/strong>, the key energy carrier in the entire production chain.<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"eq4g5s\" data-start=\"1495\" data-end=\"1513\">2. CO\u2082 Capture<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1515\" data-end=\"1694\">In the next step, carbon dioxide is captured either directly from the atmosphere or from industrial processes. Combined with hydrogen, it can first be converted into <strong data-start=\"1681\" data-end=\"1693\">methanol<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"pe2drx\" data-start=\"1696\" data-end=\"1728\">3.
